There’s nothing we love more than discovering a great fishing spot to take our boats for a day. Living in Melbourne, we are blessed by being surrounded by the ocean and river waterways which means the variety of fish in our waters are endless! Check out a few of our top fishing spots that are located in Melbourne.

LAKE EILDON

First on the list is Lake Eildon! Featuring over 500 kilometres of shoreline, Lake Eildon offers abundance for activity. Here you can catch trout, redfin, Murray cod and golden perch. All four of these species can be found all year-round and are suitable for all skill levels.

GIPPSLAND LAKES

Just a 3.5 hours drive from Melbourne, Gippsland Lakes offers limitless opportunities for exploration and activity. At Gippsland Lakes, you can enjoy the 90-mile beach, hiking, camping and many recreational water activities like fishing, kayaking and boating.
Here you can try your hand at catching yellowfin bream, black bream, flathead, salmon, King George whiting. As you move up the river, you can find estuary perch and bass. Lastly, towards the entrance you can find mulloway, pinkie snapper and silver trevally.

PORT PHILLIP BAY

Add Port Phillip Bay to your fishing bucket list! Not only is it the largest bay in Victoria, but it is also famous for its annual snapper run between October to March. There is such a huge variety of fish to be caught, most likely snapper (pinkies), flathead, whiting, salmon, squid, gummy sharks, gurnard, snook, mulloway, bream, trevally, garfish, and leather jacket… just to name a few!

ANGLESEA

Want to fish with a view? Anglesea lives up to its name as a stunning location to wind down and look out at the scenic beach while casting your rod. Located right before the entrance of The Great Ocean Road is an array of clean scenic beaches as well as a beautiful estuary. The best fish to target are salmon, tuna, snapper, leather jackets, trevally, garfish and flathead. The nearest boat ramp is Torquay Boat Ramp.

BARWON HEADS

Offering a diverse fishing experience, Barwon Heads is located in the Geelong Region. Test out your luck on the Mullaways, a huge fish usually discovered upstream, around a kilometer or two from the bridge. Here are a few boat ramps that will help you get onto the water:
